PLEASE READ IMPORTANT INFORMATION: Here are some common do's and donts Do not put large qtys of koi in a small container Many start up by using 100 gal farm containers to try to keep koi in for sale. Ammonia and nitrites build up too quickly and will kill the fish. even if you change all the water EVERY day, this will not do!. Most koi farms are on flow thru systems and have constant supply of fresh water flowing thru the tanks. too many fish in too small of area is #1 reason for these fish deaths.   Any time you receive a wholesale shipment of koi, more than likely the bags will come in smelly and water will be dirty, This is what happens when you cram 50 fish in a small bag for several hours. To reduce the effects of nitrite poisoning, Salt the fish at .4% for several days. I suggest buying a digital salt meter.   koi die in high heat, its that simple....dont keep koi in small containers under direct sunlight and allow the tank to reach more than 85 degrees.   We CANNOT ship wholesale qtys of koi via fed-ex or UPS. this takes too long for delivery. Especially during the high heat of summer. AIRLINES ONLY No exceptions.   No koi are bug free. QUARANTINE does not mean to put koi in small volume of water to see if it dies. It probably  will then. QUARANTINE means to put koi in quality water and treat for parasites GOOD WATER QUALITY AT ALL TIMES If you let your tank go to high ammonia and nitrites then change the water, this is NOT good for the fish. Keep water quality supreme at ALL times. EXAMPLE STATEMENT FROM Mr Hobbiest "Well ammonia spiked for two days and the tanks got 100 degrees. And the fish were showing signs of stress and getting sick, so i changed the water, so they should be O.K. now, why did they die? GEEEEZ....WHY?   We Keep Thousands of koi up top in our tanks at all times, with no problems Because water quality is superior Your koi should do fine as well. If you follow good husbandry skills. Koi are EASY to keep. Another mistake is feeding during Quarantine, Feeding lightly is fine, but be careful to not foul the water by over feeding. We have an Extensive section on how to quarantine koi and help them recover from shipping etc. please take the time to read it over. and we will be happy to answer any questions you may have.
